Mickey Black is an author and poet from Richmond, Virginia. But she didn’t set out to be a writer. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Mickey began her adult career as a guitar teacher. But the words always spoke to her.
As early as middle school, Mickey wrote short stories and poems to scratch her creative itch. She quietly kept honing this hobby until April of 2018 when she launched her poetry blog, anxiousrambling, on Instagram. The blog was dedicated to breaking mental health stigmas and promoting body positivity. At its height, the blog had over five thousand followers.
Today, Mickey has been published by Micromance Magazine, Bunker Squirrel Magazine, La Rotonde Review, and WWPH Writes for both poetry and short stories. She’s appeared in multiple print anthologies such as, “The Dichotomy of Love” by Lowell & Benson, "Kaleidoscopic Quill” by WIld Ink Press, and “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” by Kissmet Quarterly. She also serves as co-anthologist at The Cabochon Review. Be on the lookout for her debut novel, When Mountains Crumble, coming October 20, 2026.
